From the AOL Motley Fool board:

An informative post from the Web Fool board with information reportedly provided by Tyler Thatcher of Iomega IR:

<<<Subject: NEWS from Investor Relations Date: 3/5/99 1:39 AM
Author: VinOrdinaire Number: 18544

This is a good news story with IOM content. (I wanted to say that in the same sentence).

After I posted my earlier message tonight, Tyler Thatcher did call me back. I asked him if he could tell me something I could post, because the Motley Fool board has been dying for information. His response answers a lot of questions, and more importantly, his positive attitude towards sharing information impressed me; here's a person who's saying that anyone who wants to know what's happening is welcome to call him. Here's a report of what he said:

1) The company is optimistic for its new products and for those unannounced.

2) The guidance from the 4Q99 conference call is accurate (+ or - 2 cents in 1Q99) as of the first two months of the quarter.

3) Recent declines of CPQ and COMS show that IOM had some justification for trying to give the market early guidance.

4) The operational model (virtual enterprise model) will be "up to speed" in the latter half of the year (Gross margin mid-high 20s, SG&A mid-high teens, R&D 3-5%, net margins mid-single digits etc.; I didn't copy these numbers but they sounded consistent with what we've heard before). I asked if by "latter half" he meant the second and third quarter; no, he meant 3Q and 4Q, with a lot of new product ramping up in 2Q.

5) New products now shipping in volume (he mentioned Zip 250 specifically).

6) There are new form factors for Clik! yet to be announced. I asked him if by form factor he meant the physical size of the drive, which is already pretty small, credit-card sized, and he said "we'd like to see it even smaller. It's currently about a Type III drive, we'd like to see it become even smaller, a Type II drive, we're working with our partners at Citizen." I've read a lot of mail on this board and this is the first I've heard about a Type II Clik! drive or Citizen as a partner.

7) The Agfa camera with Clik! built-in was demonstrated at the analysts meeting last weekend and will be shipping in mid-year. This confirms the news that Agfa's "digital imaging" product is indeed a camera, first stated I believe in the First Montauk Securities report.

8) IOM is currently shipping a CD-RW drive in Europe (would that be Nomai?) and is looking for a way to bring it profitably to the USA as an IOM product.

9) No one is better able than IOM to turn technology into profitable consumer items.

That's the picture. Among other things, IOM is looking to introduce a Type II Clik! drive, which potentially allows laptops, palmtops, and digital cameras with a Type II slot to use a removable internal Clik! drive. Agfa looks to be first off the mark with a digital camera using Clik! built-in. CD-RW may be added to the product line in the USA. The operational model will be "up to speed in the latter half of the year."

A hedge on the 2Q99 results is implied in the "latter half of the year" comment. However, analysts presumably had all this news last weekend and haven't budged from their consensus estimate of a 7-cent second quarter, so I think we're safe there. Sounds like we should very much enjoy 3Q and 4Q.

Add to this picture Lipo's recent post about the two unannounced blockbuster products, the 2GB <$199 drive and the >10GB optical drive, and you've got a big expansion of the company's product lines into some hot sales areas. That's why the shorts are now being advised to close their positions on the Individual Investor Online site, and why the analysts were satisfied with their news. They see earnings growth ahead. >>>

Well, we heard of the Type II Clik! here ... glad to know that the project is alive and well

But the big news seems to be that the Agfa camera with Clik! built-in was demonstrated at the analysts meeting last weekend and will be shipping in mid-year .... ... demonstrated! ...

For those (only one) that didn't understand the above or it hasn't quite sunk in yet, let me help you. An Agfa camera with a Clik! drive built-in was DEMONSTRATED!!!!! last weekend at an analysts meeting.
