"About 520,000 households now subscribe to a cable modem service. That compares to around 15 million customers of America Online's dial-up modem service. Leading cable providers include @Home and RoadRunner. However, Dataquest predicts the cable modem market to 2.4 million by 2002.

Those subscription numbers will start picking up with the deployment of standards-based cable modems, but a number of issues remain in getting high-speed service to consumers.

For one, cable companies are still building out the links between homes and the cable company's offices. According to Kagan estimates, TCI, the largest cable operator, will only have between 50 to 60 percent of homes in its service areas ready for two-way communications by the end of 1999; Time Warner Cable, the second largest cable operator, expects to have 85 percent of its homes ready during that same time period, with overall industry numbers pegged at around 40 percent by other analysts."

No chance of Time Warner Cable selling RoadRunner it is destined to be their cash cow.

RoadRunner is moving faster than its competitors signing up subscribers and extending cable lines.

In the Area where I live, RoadRunner is very aggressively rolling out its service and extending cable lines at an unbelievable rate.

Time Warner should spin off RoadRunner.

Now we know why AT&T wants TCI. They want another cash cow......

"@Home is uniquely positioned to deliver high speed internet access to a large customer base. The recently completed AT&T/TCI merger effectively provides @Home with access to a number of new customers, especially given TCI is the majority shareholder in @Home.

Even more compelling is AT&T's current agreement with Time Warner which boasts 20.6 million or about 20% of the nations cable subscribers. AOL is an incredible company with a gigantic customer base. However, ATHM is in a strong market position. Edge @Home."

@Home does indeed look more and more like a good 2 to 3 year investment...

I see the future and it lies in Cable.....
