Thanks SteveG for the posts and to everyone else who contributes great information. I wanted to share a short story which, at least for me, reinforces what a great opportunity WinStar has. My girlfriend works in sales at one of the largest Tier I ISPs. Recently, she sold a T-3 circuit to an existing customer. Now, as many of you I am sure know, the sale of a T-3 circuit is very lucrative for the ISP and for the salesperson. So to ensure no problems with the procurement and installation of the local loop from the RBOC, my girlfriend and her company triple-checked, reconfirmed, and did everything under the sun to ensure the timely installation. The RBOC assured her and her company that everything was taken care of. On the day the circuit was to be installed, the RBOC said they had no record of the order. They said it was not their fault and that it would take the usual 45-60 days to get the circuit installed from the original installation date. This RBOC has, so far, refused to waive the installation fees or, in any way, compensate the ISP for lost revenue. My girlfriend expressed extreme frustration with the RBOC and questioned how they could do that. She wondered why her firm (one of the largest ISPs and a large customer of the RBOC) could be treated like that. My answer was simple - they are the only game in town. WinStar has a tremendous opportunity... BTY this is the second time this RBOC has dropped the ball on one of girlfriend's customers. But they are the only one she can procure the local loop from.
