Hey Slide, If someone is short a gillion shares of FGI, and they have the long shares in an equal amount, can't they just hand over the long shares and cancel out the position? The result, no short covering.

Is this how it would work...assuming the shorter had the long shares and it was all just a hedge, like you have suggested earlier.

VTS only has 21 million shares outstanding (which is good from an investment viewpoint). An unusually large amount of the shares outstanding are turning over on these million share trading days.
