" limit buys will trigger immediately if you mistakenly enter a price below the current price, no? "

David, stop and think about this for a minute. If someone is willing to buy WXYZ for 25, and you put in an order for 24, why would anyone sell it to you?

No, David, buying to cover is no different than buying to go long. Remember, you are putting in an order to BUY. So if the current price is 30 and you put in an order to buy at 29, your order will not execute at 30 since you limited it to 29. A limit buy at 29 says 29 is the MOST you are willing to pay for the stock.
