Ten,

pulling quotes severly out of context is something that I thought only the YUK Register does

I thought their Paul quotes were quite accurate, and caught the essence of Paul Engel on SI.

But people interpret this as some sort of "screw the customer" attitude, which only helps to fuel the anti-Intel hysteria.

That's exactly how I interpret it. And I'm no Intel hater - I think Intel is a great company. But they screwed up by putting narrow business-partner interests ahead of the interests of their customers.

Ten,
RE:"Jim, do you really believe that Intel wants to become "Big
Brother Inside"?"

I don't know why you want to argue. The hand writing is on the wall. People are real nervous about Intel. The stock is OFF a buck today when the NASDAQ up 36 and the DOW up 219. It's down from a high of 143 to 112. A major part of the problem is the CPU-ID fear. Whoever came up with the idea of the Intel Police department should be certified. If they keep it up it will go down as one of the biggest blunders in corporate history. It will make "New Coke" look like nothing. Intel decided to get in bed with the software makers, thinking the software makers will promote Intel. They forgot that it doesn't take much for consumers to stop buying their overpriced chips.
The responses on that article were 36-1 negative, against Intel.
The responses to a ZDnet poll were 98-1 against Intel. I can link you to many BBS threads with similar results. Maria Bartiromo just reported on CNBC that people were nervous about Intel because of the CPU-ID.
Intel isn't out to screw customers, they just forgot where their
bread and butter comes from. Intel is an Idiot for letting this go this far.
