Paul,

From your favorite source of second hand hearsay:

theregister.co.uk

High-end Alpha spreads like Wildfire

Further confirmation that Compaq is pushing ahead using Alpha as a high end system is likely to provoke fear and loathing at Intel.

According to our mole deep down in Compaq's skunkworks, the company is set to demonstrate Win64 running on Alpha in the very near future.

Further, Compaq has successfully booted a Wildfire system, the same source said. Wildfire is likely to be announced before Christmas in a 16 CPU version, with a 32-way system available next year. The CPU will be the EV67.

And Compaq is also benchmarking 667MHz EV6 TurboLasers, with initial benchmarks showing blazing speeds.

Intel marketeers in Santa Clara are now likely to be anxiously scratching their heads and wondering about Compaq's dual 64-bit strategy. ®

From Briefing: "14:29 ET Intel Corp. (INTC) 113 5/16 -1/16: Chip maker's shares have fallen almost 4 points from intraday high on comments by an analyst that Pentium III chip sales are less robust than expected. There is also a rumor in the market that Compaq Computer is not taking in Intel chips until current inventory is worked off."

*OT*
Bonjour Paul,

Made it to Paris and chose to live a little more affordably at a nice hotel near the Champs Elysees called the Hotel Madeleine Palace. thanks for the george cinq advice though. that seems like a 'hopping' street.
Bought both a plug adapter and phone adapter and a travel store and had no problem getting on the Internet from my room with them! The people here didn't know what i needed at all. It is costing me about 8 bucks an hours though, which is a bit expensive.

France Telecom needs to change their ways because a lot of the reason people don't have Internet connections is because it is costly andnot easy. This will change, just as surely as we will get faster and faster PCs. ;-)

I took humble carls advice and got a lot of good info at the paris.com site. thanks carl!

bonsoir,

For once you are right Paul

Words about going long on Intel from Paul Engel:

"If you are an investor, don't worry. If you want to get-rich-quick, sorry - you just bought the WRONG STOCK."

==================

Yes the correct stock to have bought to get rich quick is NOVL as reported on the cover of this week's Barron's.

NOVL has doubled since last October and Barron's expects the stock to reach 80 from its current price of 20.
