Interesting that Compaq paid $200 million for Shopping.com...
They were buying talent and ideas, not having them in stock already.

john: are you referring 'dellware'? If so that was not even promoted by the company, one would have been hard pressed to find the site even and Dell did not offer 30 (soon to be 40 thousand) thousand products there either. It was a reluctant effort at best on Dell's part but this 'gigabuys' thing could turn out to be at least as successful or better than many of this 'garagesale.com' guys who peddle crap on the internet with no profit at all even that after putting in relatively large investments.

With CPQ example you hit the nail right on the head,200 million dollars got them a crappy unprofitable website was all. They could have started their own but that takes foresight, effort and planning as you know 5fer would rather not do that especially when dry-ice is available in plenty for a buck a lbs.<vbg>

I think this 'gigabuys' site will far exceed expectations and will be profitable from the first quarter. And besides we haven't seen the end of the story yet.I am hoping we will get some more details as to what Dell is up to from the analysts meeting in April when MD addresses the pundits.
