MAR 4, 1999, M2 Communications - Novell UK -- Leo Burnett, the international advertising agency, have replaced their NT servers and MS Mail in favour of Novell NetWare and Novell GroupWise as part of a world-wide project to standardise its network platform on Novell NetWare.

As part of the project, Leo Burnett in London has replaced four NT servers with just one Novell NetWare server and one server running Novell GroupWise. Kirsteen Jackson, Leo Burnett's UK and EMEA IT manager explained why they decided to make the change to Novell NetWare: "Since replacing the NT servers with NetWare we have noticed a significant improvement in network speed, performance and reliability. NetWare's superior scalability and ease of management have enabled us to cope with both the growth and administration of our network, something that was just not possible with NT."

In addition to the superior performance and scalability of NetWare, the centralised administration provided by NDS and ManageWise was also a big factor in Leo Burnett's decision. Jackson added: "We only have a small IT department and as such we needed to reduce the amount of support work carried out at users' desks. The centralised single point of administration provided by NDS enables us to free our support staff from time consuming routine network management tasks and firefighting to concentrate on rolling out value added projects such as the provision of new client applications, which in turn is made easier by the use of Novell Application Launcher."

Leo Burnett's 320 London employees are using Novell GroupWise for email communication with clients and suppliers over campaign preparation, and for scheduling of tasks and meetings.

"We chose GroupWise as it was cheap and easy to install, and offered full integration with NDS which made it much easier to administer in comparison to rival packages," added Jackson. "We intend to further leverage GroupWise's functionality by introducing workflow for advertising campaigns in the near future as well as upgrading to GroupWise 5.5."

In the future, Leo Burnett intend to create virtual private networks between offices and provide employees working off-site with GroupWise WebAccess
