djj: The brokers have to check each time to see if they have shares, so I phone Web St when trying to borrow-- I get an answer fairly fast.

If they have them, I can place the order on line or directly on the phone. I won't place an order on the internet unless I first know if shares are available.

When they told you approval was needed they may have meant 'approval that shares are available'.

If you place an order online, and it comes back cancelled, that means they don't have shares to lend you. It's nothing personal regarding your account. LOL, yeah status screens and balances aren't always up to date. No way are they great for active trading. But then who is? Seems they all have their shortcomings and assets....

If you have a number of questions for them, call after trading hours.
