Thanks.

One thing about this place. It gives one a little perspective.

Yes you are lucky, but don't forget you have something to do with it. Two of my favorite sayings are, "Luck is the residue of design" and "Luck is the meeting of preparation and opportunity."

Oh, and to get a baseball one in there, Tim McCarver once said, "Bob Gibson is the luckiest pitcher I have ever seen. He always pitched on the day the other team didn't score any runs."

It's important to know how well we have it, and that it's all relative. Strangely, I don't think about the issue of hell applying to my life or even a specific life, but about lives as a giant collection, from all the places and experiences you mention. To me it's whole nasty hellish mix.

I know I'm way, way better off than the world average, but, I hate to say it, that doesn't matter to me. Sure, I should be, and am, actually, grateful for what I have. But to whom? It doesn't make it any better for "people." Our experience. And come Tuesday, they switch your place.

I don't thank God for what I have. To me, if he indeed is running the shew, he is very fickle. It is all up to what he decides. Therefore.

What he gives is his.

I am grateful to live in a wealthy, established geography.

I spose it's possible I don't orient my thinking towards "belief" in god. I don't have any faith. I'm not saying that to offend you. Oooh, God discussions. I have no basis for those beliefs.

Just an observer and wealthier participant. And, frankly, victim of circumstance. Who dislikes and distrusts the sum of human experience.

Naughty naughty. Oh well.

Well-there you go--hell (and thus heaven?) is a state of mind. And the same circumstances that can produce depression in one person, can be perfectly acceptable to another.
That is so TRUE about not wanting to antagonize God becuase He might really let you have it. And I 'm not even a believer, exactly. But whatever's in charge could give you the whammy. "So you think you got it bad now? Take this!" LIke someone is measuring. And since I also have an extremely wonderful life, it makes me very nervous that I'm not making karmic gains in this life and will have to really suffer in the next. Suffering being essential to becoming a better person or something.
I'm lucky that Dan also thinks life is wonderful, most of the time. Except for the morning traffic, and the fact that he can no longer throw his 90 mph fastball.

I agree. Funny as to how some of the people who are worse off are happy. Those who have a bunch need more. Even people who have health problems seem to be happier. May be they aren't striving for perfection.
