Your thinking is reasonable. But almost all nets are trading in the 100+ range. Back then, AOL and many smaller names were in the 70-90 range, but of course it depends what CMGI see as competition...

I am concerned that at these levels, the split may become factored into the price. And when it doesn't happen, the stock can dive down....

I believed they last announced the Split around $90's. I bought some the day of the announcement at $99 and saw it dropped to $90 and stayed there for few days.
Regarding stock splits two quarters in a row - If you followed AOL- I believed they did announced split two quarters in a row recently-one in Oct '98 & another one on Jan '99. Actually they had 3 splits within 1 year period. Don't see why CMGI can't do the same.
