The PC might not be the home networking server.

Sony is supporting USB and 1394 in the next generation PlayStation. Details at lsilogic.com. They also have their own I/O processor architecture, rather than supporting I2O or Future I/O.

The NY Times has an excellent article about Sony in today's paper at search.nytimes.com and an earlier related article at nytimes.com. Sony is adding all sorts of general computing capability traditionally associated with PCs, so the NY Times is not exaggerating when they call it, "The Fight of the Next Century".

After he went sulking away from this thread, Chinacat made an outstanding post about Sony on the Wind River thread at Message 8191079. Please link this thread to any thoughtful discussion about Sony on the Intel thread from Paul Engel or anyone else. Also, see Allen Benn's posts on the Wind River thread about the coming world of "Ubiquitous Computing" where there are more computers than people at flash.net.
