A few excerpts from the Dallas Morning News on the DELL/IBM deal.....

I know these comments have probably been posted on this Thread more
then a couple of times, but they just might be worth repeating....

The excerpts are taken from a Bloomberg News Article on the deal.

This deal will help DELL develop the technology it needs to build
sophisticated computers and storage devices.

The companies also will work on new products to be sold by DELL.

DELL is light in R&D expertise while IBM is technology-heavy.

DELL's benefit comes later when they develop new products.

DELL hopes to move into higher-priced products such as very
powerful computer servers and storage devices.

Storage is one of the fastest growing parts of the technology
industry because of all the information being generated by online
commerce and the Internet.

The worldwide market for storage devices is expected to grow to
$31.1 billion in 2002 from $18.1 billion last year according to market
researcher International Data Corp.

DELL spent just $272 million on R&D last fiscal year, or about
about 1.5 percent of its $18.2 billion in revenues.

IBM has a $5 billion research budget to help it make more than
just PC's for its corporate customers.

Ya gotta love it.....Get the bag ready Norton.....J.D.
