The circumstances of Budd's purchase are quite different than those of Rice. I always believed that Rice's purchase was for long-term reasons and not short-term gain. I believe Budd's purchase is to make a statement (and also for long-term gain). I cannot understand why the CEO would make such a purchase if the CD death was so imminent and impossible to handle. Budd made a point in the conference call of addressing the issue of capital structure first. He also stressed that he had connections in the banking world. If I were the new CEO and I faced such an issue with no real way of handling it, I would not throw my own money away. Instead, I would make a small token purchase, if any.
The issue to be decided, Max, is whether the current management has the needed resources and talent to overcome the current obstacles facing the company. You have decided that they do not. I respect your decision but I disagree. Unfortunately, neither one of us has the factual information to prove the issue either way. I will remain long and await the outcome.
By the way, every negative issue surrounding the company bothers me. I try to remain objective about the substantial risks involved in investing in ABTX. I have raised many of the company's problems in my posts. But I still believe that the rewards will outweigh the risks in the long-run (and I believe we will make it to the long-run).
