I once planned a series of essays on various Philippine topics, historical, geographic, anthropological, fictional, etc. The idea was to deliberately avoid linking them together directly, but to arrange them in a manner that would communicate... something, I'm no longer sure what. It seems a pompous notion in retrospect. I did write a number of the pieces; two of the historical ones are at:

boondocksnet.com
boondocksnet.com

I took the idea and some samples to some people in the publishing world; the response was - to say the least - less than overwhelming. If I were single and childless I'd probably have pushed on and completed the thing, as it was, I moved on to something with more immediate returns on time and effort invested.

And that is the way it goes.

Being a former publisher you know how expensive it is to print a book. I had intentions once of reprinting a book researched and printed at the turn of the century about my family name's genealogical history. The research reaches back to the 16th century and I don't want it to fade away. But the cost was prohibitive. I sent out a mass mailing looking for interested parties to buy the book directed at my family name. I got one response. LOL. That was about 10 years ago. Now I think the best course would be to scan the whole book into my computer and put the book on a web site for my family name. That is far cheaper. There must be a program for setting up a book online, I haven't looked into it seriously yet. A project for the near future.
