Humbly report, solution, your mention of the good old days (oh sorry, you said dogs, didn't you?) prompted me to revisit an old post on this thread. Boggles the mind how correct it was - #reply-2128965.

IAIC was then trading in the mid-$20 range, after I believe three 3:1 splits?

solution, I learned a nice lesson about averaging down on a dying
dog. If you want the long shot, get out on the bad news and get
back in for 1/2 buck. My average downs have always resulted in a
slower more painful death, except for companies with historical
records of success.
