Mary Cluney. Re: the PC's future. The problem for most people is that they put the emphasis on the "computer" part of the "PC" and not the "personal" part. And that IMHO is why they miss the fact that it will continue to expand and not top out.

The second problem as I see it is that a better term is "personal communicator". That captures your example perfectly. Like the telephone and unlike the TV the PC is a two way device, which a lot richer more customizeable than the passive TV.

Those who keep looking for the future of the "perfect" appliance" to replace the PC miss these points.

It reminds me of the comment a women once made to Adlai Stevenson. She said, "You have every thinking person's vote." To which he replied, "Madam, that's not enough. I need a majority.":)
