Jon K..Shorting

This is in the FWIW category..these are
lesons I learned the 'hard' way on shorting
stocks..

Try to short stocks that are 'declining' rather
than running up..it's much safer..weak stocks
usually get weaker just as strong stocks tend to
get stronger..Trying to short a stock that is
spiking up in price is the same as grabbing
one on the long side that is in free fall..we
all get lucky once in awhile and catch the 'turn'
just right..but It's not a good long term
proposition..If you find that you are short
in a 'runner' and underwater its a good idea to
cover around 3:00 and take your loses..Brokerage
firms execute 'buy-ins' @ 3:30 .. traders know this
and that is why a stock that is up a bunch
of points late in the day will often have an
acceleration move into the bell..

It sounds easy to say.. 'buy strong stocks' and
'short weak ones'..but very hard to do..most of
us tend to do the opposite in fact..and with poor
results..

The only exception to the above is to do scalp
trades on the short side in the morning..ie
fading a gap-up opening..provided no news..

zora -

Lost not only my money but my youngest sons.

Jeez, you traded your youngest sons away? Wow. How much did you get for them? Ladies and Gentlemen, *that* is addiction. See... That's why I don't like the commodities market.

*G*

It's 3:40am and I'm still zinging them out. Man, somebody stop me! *G*
