from the Fidelity what's new page on short term fees:
""Attention FundsNetwork® Shareholders
New short-term transaction fee policy for FundsNetwork "No Transaction Fee" funds

Short-term trading increases fund expenses and can harm fund performance, thereby adversely affecting all shareholders. In order to protect Fidelity FundsNetwork shareholders, we are implementing a short-term transaction fee affecting our No Transaction Fee (NTF) funds, beginning February 12, 1999. This fee policy is designed to discourage such frequent trading and defray the additional costs that Fidelity incurs in processing short-term trades.

The new policy

Effective February 12, 1999, Fidelity will begin charging a short-term transaction fee each time you sell shares of FundsNetwork funds purchased without paying a transaction fee or load and held less than 180 days (short-term trade). In addition, if you place more than 15 short-term trades in a 12 month period in your account, Fidelity will begin charging a transaction fee each time you purchase or sell shares of FundsNetwork funds (typically available without paying a transaction fee or load) in that account for the following 12 months. Automatic investments are included. Fidelity funds, money market funds and shares purchased through dividend reinvestment are excluded.

See FundsNetwork Funds for more information on our FundsNetwork program.

gunslinger:

I guess MoneyPenny cleared up the confusion about fees.

I'm not happy now. In particular I don't like the sound of fees against "purchases" which may be adding to a position?? If that is the case, I will move a lot into another Fund family that I like very much - Janus. I'll talk to Fidelity too; they should have notified all of us in a more direct manner especially those with large holdings.
