Gentlemen...a recent article said that the palm is re-inventing internet computing. Anyone care to elaborate on what is coming or could be coming down the line??

3Com has become the Apple Computer of yesteryear, without the pretentious TV commercials. Steve Jobs introduced us to techno lust. ("Your computer is your friend. Say, Hi.") 3Com is perfecting the art with ruthless precision; the PC is trying to boot up. 3Com is inventing Internet computing, while Bill Gates and his various hosts lose their grasp on the next generation. So, Macintosh fanatics, why aren't you out there buying 3Com stock?

Scribilings on the back of an envelope response:

BECAUSE:

Mang, I believe it was and I went through this about a year ago. IF the co. sells 4 Million Palms (twice the orig projected sales figure), at say 350 per palm, that's 1.4 billion. That <20% of the total gross rev. for the co. Its nice, but not a substitute for the other lost or abandoned or squeezed revenue streams.

AND, it appears from your post that they have not executed very well on production issues, so th at the 4mill figure might never be obtained.

This MAY be, and I am not saying it is, a direct result of the co management not confronting the REAL issue of the complete loss of the Router/switch wars. The effort to "downplay" (euphemistic word to hide and not disclose), the lack of router/switch business, corrupted the internal flow of information in the company with the result that the efforts to re-allocate COMPANY resourses failed. This happens sometimes when Peter doesn't talk to Paul.

WeeCom (3Com) is brilliant; they make their business building Internet related products…yet they cut off those businesses that sell Palm products via the Internet. AND if I want a PalmPilot I have to go the damned store to find one to buy. No wonder WeeCom is a roller coaster headed down. No vision.

Now maybe I can buy online from Office Max, Staples or Office Depot…via their Websites.

Makes no sense to me…make no cents to them.
