Regarding The so call "Spyhop" is 100% dependent on EVERY host to install and program the resident program. It is doubtful that many hosts will be in line for that extra burden Right now lets consider WordCruncher to be a site that licensed the Spyhop technology (You can substitute with any company (ex. BMHA Solutions) but I want to use a real working example now). This is my take on the resources required to add searching. Steps 1) Go to wordcruncher.com You are now at the WordCruncher site using the resouces of that site. Note: WordCruncher had to add the "Search this Site" interface to access Spyhop searching. 2) Type "Lunt" in the search screen and click go. Note: You are now at spyhop.com and using Spyhop's resources 3) Click on "WordCruncher Internet Technologies, Inc. " in the Table of Contents Note: You are now at spyhop.com Notice "db=wordcruncher" in the URL. WordCruncher has it's own database (which would make sense to be stored on Spyhops resources) 4) Click on the first web page in the TOC ("WCTI Confirms First-Quarter Rollout on Internet Search Engine") and then click on the first hit of "Lunt" on the right. Note: You are now at spyhop.com Still using Spyhops resources ... Notice the way it even scrolled down to the hit for you. 5) Now click on "About Spyhop". Note: You are back to the WordCruncher site and resources. wordcruncher.com Another test you can do 1) Go to spyhop.com and click on Miscellaneous. Search on Lunt (click go) 2) Click on "WordCruncher Internet Technologies, Inc." in the TOC Note the URL is spyhop.com You are now using db=misc not db=wordcruncher I can see these possible options for customers 1) Use Spyhop on their site and have it included globally (in this example both databases ... misc and wordcruncher) As an added bonus maybe each site who licenses the technology would get refreshed in the global index nightly (I will send this as a suggestion) 2) Use Spyhop on their site but not globally (just database wordcruncher). Maybe this would be an Intranet that goes to a secure Spyhop resource 3) Use Spyhop technology on the customers resources. Maybe some intranet customers would not want the index offsite. This is just my take on things You may remember this from the WordCruncher site. "Additionally, once you have added the WordCruncher search feature to your site, your information is automatically visible to anyone doing a search at the main WordCruncher site. This, too, will drive business to your site. Finally, you can try it for 60 days free of charge. After 60 days, a small monthly fee is assessed for maintaining your local search capability. You'll find this to be far more affordable than purchasing a license to use the other search engine products, and you'll find that the results are much better." The fee might be to cover the cost of Spyhop resources you will be using (in addition to the Spyhop profit for this service) Flap you quoted "Headquartered in Salt Lake, Utah, WordCruncher Internet Technologies, Inc. provides search technology that enables businesses to efficiently index their Web site for improved customer queries and consumers to receive credible, relevant search results. The model includes content, advanced technological features and a specialized user interface, all of which combine to create an exciting new Internet business. For more information about WordCruncher Internet Technologies, Inc., visit" This does not give details either way as to whos resources will host the site and how the site will be indexed. My guess is that after the database is setup you would just submit the URLs you wish to index and it would do the work from that point. Just a guess ... hope this helps and I hope I am not off base.
