Good post.

I am thinking about the people I knew who killed themselves. I knew that they were suffering from disappointments, even "failure," if you will, although I would not have called it failure. One man had not been granted tenure, and then was unable to make a go of it in his father's business. He taught philosophy, had studied at Oxford, and was one of the most creative, exciting, warm, entertaining people I knew - David, I miss you!

Another was a fellow member of the Louisiana Libertarian Party, very knowledgeable about politics, but he was self-taught and worked as a custodian in an office building. Noah, I miss you, too!

Another was a very good artist, who had suffered scoliosis as a child, and had back surgery that left her in a back brace for months, which apparently was very traumatic, and had recently been raped. She was so funny, and she used to have linguini parties. She lived next door to me, and was the best neighbor I ever had. Anne, I miss you, too!

I don't have enough friends, I want them back.
