It's a technology fair in Hannover, Germany - probably the most important global showcase for mobile phone manufacturers. March 18 onwards.

Most companies will probably have held back some of their leading 1999 products to be announced at CeBIT. Ericsson is expected to announce a WAP phone, Motorola should also come up with a new internet model and Nokia might finally unveil the mysterious 4110. Last year the stock prices of most of the telecom companies got a boost out of the publicity generated by the trade show... they usually time some big infrastructure deals to coincide with CeBIT to distract attention from competitors and hog the headlines.

The big issue is how prominently the WAP technology is pushed at CeBIT. If it gets the wall-to-wall coverage some are predicting it might signal a shift in the industry focus.
