He was written up in the Wall Street Journal about a week ago for the dismal performance of his funds in '98 (Murphy blames this on biotechs). Murphy is considered to be quite knowledgable in tech but is supposed to have a very poor sense of timing and also relies excessively on beaten down small caps (value) that never recover (he seldom lets go of his bad picks).
