Well, of course IBM sells to other companies, so maybe they
are just solidifying past agreements. Maybe other companies are afraid Dell will get first priority on production quantities.
(with good reason).
Dell-IBM combo is a great positive for both. Close ears to bear talk.

It means a lot to IBM.

Wallcalla,

I don't think it means that much to Dell,it means a lot to IBM though since they are performing poorly in the PC business and they have to cover the hefty R&D expenses.Just inventing world class technology without proper marketing strategy to support the new products won't get one anywhere fast is what the size of it is.So now they are looking for new avenues to market their high tech inventions which probably have been sitting somewhere in the basement not generating much revenue, $6 billion and change out of $80.00 billion of total revenue is not all that much, especially considering these products have the potential to generate hell of a lot more than the $6 Billion.

This shouldn't be viewed as anything other than IBM's effort to boost revenue through sale of parts and technology which in my opinion (not really mine, this is what the 'experts' are saying) is what is happening.IBM is trying to make this parts business a full fledged and thriving segment of the company.

Remember the agreement between Dell and IBM is 'nonexclusive' so there is nothing new in the Bloomberg report except a few details as to how IBM is progressing in their efforts to generate additional revenues from their world class technology and parts.Looks like IBM wants to stick with what they know best ie research and development and service,no point in sticking with low end of the computer biz if they can not make any profit, not only that they are losing market share to Dell.So leaving marketing to others probably is sounding pretty good to IBM just about now is what I am thinking.
