I'm sure that mom, pop, & Joe sixpack want to sit around on a Sat. night swapping out Win98 for Linux on a removable ORB. Your PC2000 FUD is a lot easiar to type in a chat room than it is to move across the retail counter at a comp store.

Even if the so-called PC2000 becomes reality, what's to say that IOM's optical, GMR, or by that time RGMR (R for really)drives wont be in the box or usb'd or firewired in instead of your mighty ORB?

Oh yea, 2 16mb smartmedia cards are avail at the d-store for 112$, or you can buy one of Olypus's new 32mb smartmedias for 130$, or better still, Lexar is now shipping an 80mb compact flash for 329$. I'm sure that mom & pop would prefer the 329$ 80mb's instead of IOM's CLIK!

>> actually replacing the HARD DRIVE in a computer with an ORB Drive...this way, you can have hard drive performance (or even better) and be able to swap out drives with ease. You can have different bootable OS's on each ORB disk..Windows2000 on one, Linux on another, etc. <<

That's going to be hot seller in college campuses where latest and newest are sold each year, and VERY AFFORDABLE! Two OS's in one PC? That's SUPER HOT!!!

>>This goes right along with Syed Iftikar's strategy--actually replacing the HARD DRIVE in a computer with an ORB Drive...this way, you can have hard drive performance (or even better) and be able to swap out drives with ease. You can have different bootable OS's on each ORB disk..Windows2000 on one, Linux on another, etc. Syed has already lined up Asian computer-maker ProView to replace internal hard drives with ORBS. <<

Rocky -

That idea has been discussed here, long ago. You could have a PC without any fixed storage, and yes, you could then boot different operating systems by swapping disks.

However, you couldn't swap disks while running, since the system and swap files must be accessible at all times. That would mean that you would be limited to the space available on one disk, unless you had more than one Jaz or Orb drive.

I'm sure Mr. Iftikar isn't pinning his hopes on replacing the primary hard drives in computers.
