Where did you hear this? Not from the phone companies, of course. I live in Pac Bell country, and hear that they're lobbying to exclude the cable companies using that argument. The first outift to offer high bandwidth (at consumer prices) gets my business - my allegiance to the phone company is about as strong as my allegiance to Ghengis Khan. Less, actually. I think Ghengis had more integrity. My allegiance to TCI is pretty far down on that list as well.
