I think one reason that Dems so stubbornly hang on to Clinton is because they were hoping that he would be the "answer" to Reagan. They no doubt hated living under Reagan for 8 years, and some may be resentful that Reagan was so popular and so well-liked by Americans across the fruited plains.

They can huff and puff all they want about the "terrible" supporting of the anti-communist Nicaraguan Contras and such, but the fact is Reagan's reputation was still stellar amongst the masses when he ended his 2nd term.

Whereas Clinton's reputation lies in tatters. He may be still able to put on the game face for speeches, but clearly the double whammy of the Impeachment trial (only second time in history), then the very credible Broaddrick rape allegation, and well...he's damaged goods.

Face it, he's an enabler. Clinton and Monica deserve each other. They are psychic match for each other.

Bleat on, JBL. Clinton will be gone in 20 months, then what will you have to bleat about?

Finally, "values." Many Republicans, cross about public support for Clinton, seem to think American values need protection from . . . Americans. As an electoral appeal, that needs work.

Granted, Clinton's silken charm makes one long for honest rancor. But Republicans who think people support him only because they have been irrationally charmed resemble Democrats who ascribed Reagan's popularity to his smile. A party in denial is in danger.

That's George Will, JBL, not usually considered a marxist. What would you have to say to him in your smug moral superiority bleating mode?
