John --

Very good points about the possible risks of over-publicizing the metering functioning. I definitely agree with you that there are risks here. In fact, I fully expect some sort of public backlash somewhere along the line once we start to deploy in a massive way. Some big voices are going to be yelling about the end of free content. Because I see this as inevitable, I guess I don't necessarily think that under-stating the metering function is the best way to go. In truth, we've got great and very simple arguments to make about the benefits of Embassy and of metering in general for the consumer. I think that we ought to be making those widely known as early as its feasible. WAVX will be offering things like pay-per-use with a total charge capped at something like 80 percent of retail for the product -- if you talk about metering in those terms, it sounds really good. And it is really good. We can pitch the "try before you buy" angle really hard, too. People are going to really like getting complete, functional CDs with software on them.

Another good point about valuation that others have been suggesting here is that it's really difficult for us even to understand what the full range of uses for the meter will be. As Wahoograd was suggesting back a little while, business-to-business use of Embassy could conceivably wind up a being bigger source of revenue than consumer uses. There are so many factors.

Finally, here's a link to a very good post on RB on the valuation discussion:
