The Fed Con't:

I would first like to thank you for remaining polite and considerate while debating a subject that makes it very easy for one to get emotional.....thanks...

Now....

"The FRB is a "HYBRID", part private bank, but still a creation of the political process and thus accountable to it. "

It was authorized by the political process, but that has nothing to do with whether or not it is a private bank. Pls do not mix separate issues.

"btw, do you know how much Alan Greespan makes as an annual salary?? Research that and then come back and tell us whether he is a paid like other private bank heads, or more like a Federal executive.)"

I am sure he makes a very "modest" salary....officially....but his masters are the most wealthy and powerful in the world......they could arrange any set of perks a man's heart could desire.....why else would a gold standard freak (in the 60's) like AG change to what he is now?

"I refer you to my comments on JP Morgan. I also suggest finding a copy of "Secrets of the Temple" by William Grieder for a history of money. "

Just arrived...haven't read it yet....

"They believed (or at least tried to make us believe they believed) that the Euro would be major competition to the Dollar because it was backed by 30% gold. Yet it has declined 8% in value against the dollar since then."

30% backed by gold is a thoroughly confusing term.....my understanding is that:

"30% of foreign/monetary reserves are held in gold" this does not mean that "they hold gold sufficient to back 30% of the currency"....

Which is correct? There is a big difference.

THC

Ron, the initial weakness of the euro may be due to the perception that the european economy is weakening while the US bubble economy remains strong. mike

Ron,,, I spend considerable time watching gold related news. Just exactly when did the Euro become backed by 30% gold....I missed that, but remember when it was something like 15%.....Maybe the world missed that part also?
