Yes...I did think of that, but it isn't what is usually referred to as averaging down, since it requires a sell then a buy back after the price has dropped. If one is going to average using that method...they should simply sell their whole position...then buy it back cheaper.

Averaging down is to add to one's position on dips...thus reducing the average cost or basis of their entire position.
