Nolimitz:

Young smart overeducated person who collects degrees like collecting stamps has the danger of being absorbed in theories and textbook analysis. With graduation and ceremonies to crown his/her achievement, that person is lacking in one important aspect: experience. Now it is up to that person whether to gain or to learn from others with experience (just like we learn from William B Michael), or to continue to have chips on the shoulder and says: "I am smart, look how many kids can get this degree, etc". That is why a Ph.D. degree in most cases is the worst and most useless degree to earn.

I am afraid that an analyst like Dan Niles who comes out from a prestigous school, uses his brain armed with theories and textbooks (but not common sense) in analyzing statements of condition of a company, although he never got his hands dirty in the real world. Unfortunately his statement about a company like Dell is taken as gospel by many WS people.
