There's a clever John Prine song about a town in the way of coal. I forget the town's name, but the chorus ends with "Mr Peabody's coal train has hauled it a-way."

Good album. Sigh; where is that thing?

Back in my dating days one of the trains came through just before midnight. Blocked getting to the dorms until 12:10. The female dorms were locked at midnight so the plan was to be on the Bloomington side just before train time. Of course the main street underpass was never mentioned. Then since the young lady didn't have a place to stay.....

Bloomington used to be a big Pullman car building center. The RR paid on Saturday so the downtown stores stayed open quite late on Saturday night. This was back in the 30s, 40s, and early 50s.
