Snap.com and Go.com I think are emerging portals. I know they have significant backing from the TV networks and Disney but they are late to the game and nobody uses them. Excite has elevated itself with @home, yahoo of course is #1 and infoseek - I don't know whats up with them? I would put gnet above snap and go only for its ownership of SI... in fact without SI I wouldn't even consider gnet. Nonetheless SI is the #1 discussion site on the web as far as I'm concerned and that has got to be worth a lot.

With gnet offering these "coffee shop" members for free I think a lot more people will join SI. There really aren't any good sites for contemporary discussion - you can't use yahoo really since their msg boards are linked to stocks. CNN has a few boards to discuss current topics but they are clumsy. SI is the best - I think they aren't advertising the Coffee Shop members yet for some reason but when they do it will be successful.
