<<Even if we get $ 25 for VLSI, it is still a lousy deal for long term holders. Bank CDs would have yielded better over 16 years! >> 16 years or 16 days doesn't really matter. VLSI has been a consistent underperformer, blame Stein or whoever you want. This stock has been a loser, yet they have some good products and good connections. If phillips wins it with cash, you can simply buy Phillips stock and have the same participation as if there had been a stock deal. only difference will be taxation, there will be a cap gain or loss in a cash deal. stock deal rolls over the cost basis into the new entity. I think we are lucky to get this offer. I am in some shares at 15 1/4, have already sold some from there, and not looking for much more. I have made money on this stock and lost money on this stock. Long term smong term, now is what is happening. There is an offer on the table of 17, stock at 18 1/4, so obviously everyone expects more. If phillips pulls the deal, stock will tank to 12-13. Lets get a white knight or some talk between phillips and vlsi and maybe we'll see 20. Much more than that is not realistic, IMO
