Uh oh, looks like a bidding war. The Phillipines wants Disney to do a "feasability" study, also. This is VERY good news. Friday March 5, 8:42 pm Eastern Time Shanghai still could ink Disney deal--HK paper HONG KONG, March 6 (Reuters) - Shanghai Mayor Xu Kuangdi said the east China city was still in the running for a Disney theme park, the South China Morning Post said on Saturday, after Hong Kong announced the territory and Disney were ''courting.'' ''We will probably sign a letter of intent to conduct a feasibility study with Disney,'' Xu told reporters on the sidelines of the annual session of the National People's Congress in Beijing. Hong Kong has signed a letter of understanding with The Walt Disney Co (NYSE:DIS - news) and contracted consultants Credit Agricole Indosuez to do a financial feasibility study of a site on Lantau Island, west of Hong Kong Island, the Post said on Saturday. Top Disney executives are due to arrive in Hong Kong on Saturday to hold talks with the government and view the site, the paper said on Friday. The Hong Kong government has signalled that while it welcomed a deal with Disney, there were limits to the concessions it would make to clinch an agreement. At a time of economic gloom and high joblessness in Hong Kong, the possibility of a Disney theme park has cheered markets. In January, Disney chief executive Michael Eisner said he was struck by the business opportunities after a visit to China and that he was confident the Chinese people loved Mickey Mouse no less than the Big Mac. He was referring to the success in China of the fast-food vendor MacDonald's Corp.
