Hi rudedog - Thank you for the information on Compaq and Novell. I am trying to satisfy myself that COMPAQ has (1) a significant business plan for the future that includes growing their service and consulting side of their business w/o relying on the typical VAR model, (2)that CPQ has significant R&D advances (as evidenced by patents) to differentiate their technology from the typical box maker, and (3) to compare the differences in business models of Dell and see if CPQ can advance the best features of Dell's model while developing their own "unique" long term growth strategies.

So far Dell has fetched a much better "growth" premium but I believe CPQ has made a much better investment in their long term R&D technology that I hope will pay shareholders big dividends in the future.

It is just not clear to this investor that CPQ's management has put all the pieces together to guarantee double digit growth for FY2000 and beyond. IMO the key to CPQ's success will be how they deploy their business plan for their services group and if they can become a leader in the industry in their Internet portal business.

I see the rumored Novell/Compaq relationship discussed in Barrons as a big positive for both companies.

Thank's again for clarifying Compaq's "cluster" technology. Do you think COMPAQ leads the industry (specifically IBM) in this area? Will we see some new products that utilize these new patents soon?
