How is data entered into CBC? Is a computer included with the machine? Answer in 20 words or less..please<g>

It is CNC..stands for Computer Numeric Control. The router..standard wood working router..Porter Cable variable speed..moves along each of three axes. Just like in geometry class.. it moves from one coordinate to another.

To move from the origin to a point 12 in 'North' to 5 in 'East' to 3 in to the center of the earth and then back to the origin... the code...it can be created in notepad would look like..

G01 X0 Y0 Z0
G01 X3 Y12 Z-3
G01 X0 Y0 Z0

They call it gcode because all commands begin with a G. There is a G02 option for arcs and a few others. There are programs that will convert Corel Draw files and others to gcode. Call up the gcode file and click on start..after attending to a few details..limit switches and the like. You do not want the machine crashing into things<g>.

The Data port design is very well thought out. I don't know if you have yours installed yet..

Not yet. Still waiting on the 8.4 gig Maxtor..backordered:( I will stick with 8.4 gig or less for the primary NT drive until NT5.0. I do not need the hassle and 8.4 gig ain't bad for a primary drive. I will not be storing any Drive Images on the primary.

the one thing that I had to ponder a bit was replacing the Maxtor jumpers with the jumper cable from Dataport cartridge.

I did not know about that option. My thought was to stick with Maxtor drives as they have the Master and Master with slave present as one jumper setting. Do you have to install the jumper cable?? or is it an option? Which series Dataport did you opt for?

Have we discussed partitioning these drives for backup yet? I'm thinking one single partition for now at least, formatted NTFS in my case. The volume labels would be BACKUP 1 and BACKUP 2. If, after working with Backup Exec for awhile, a more sophisticated process is presented then more partitioning can be done. I can't figure it out hypothetically... I think by just starting a daily backup routine the right disk organization will become apparent..

Not yet..like you say it will become apparent with use. I am leaning towards one large FAT32 for starters. I do not have Seagate exec yet ..will probably use Drive Image for awhile. With FAT32 and Win9X the drive could be a stand alone boot..and restore drive...perhaps a KOT/ROMO combo with the first two harddrives dedicated to NT and Win95 respectively. If I had a routine perhaps I could initiate Drive Image at the end of the day...and then swap the KOT/ROMOs once a week. My system looks like it will be a dual OS machine rather than a system built around NT with Win9X as an ancillary OS.

Keep us updated on your progress and thoughts for the ROMOs.

BTW Where did Spots take you to lunch.... Wendys or Macdonalds

You do not get much for twelve dollars up north... I had dinner the next night in Monterey..prime rib was $21. There was an option for prime rib and lobster tale..market price..how much could that be? I had a $45 daily reimbursement limit so no problem..I thought. Too tacky to ask the price...oops $47.

Should'a stuck with 39 cent cheese burgers at McDonalds<g>

Is a computer included with the machine?

I forgot to answer the question<g> It could be but I opted to use my own PC. Controllers for low end (less than $20,000) machines are mostly PC based. It is a DOS crowd! They claim Windows is not quick enough for machine control..I am done with DOS or at least will not begin a new endeavor with DOS. I found a Win based controller..software sends gcode through the serial port to a black box that sends signals to another black box with motor controllers inside that control the stepper motors. The stepper motors drive the router by turning a threaded shaft. One movement in the stepper motor translates into five thousandths of an inch movement in the router.
