Microsoft to invest in Internet music firm - WSJ
NEW YORK, March 8 (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp. <MSFT.O> is
expected to announce as early as today a $15 million equity
investment in Reciprocal Inc, which develops technologies for
delivering music and other media content via the Internet, the
Wall Street Journal reported in its March 8 issue.
The investment will give Microsoft about a 15 percent stake
in Reciprocal, which is expected to go public in the next year
or two, the newspaper said.
The investment in Buffalo, N.Y.-based Reciprocal is part of
Microsoft's attempt to boost its e-commerce efforts, which have
lagged behind those of other technology companies. It also puts
the software company against other giants such as IBM Corp.
<IBM.N>, and AT&T Corp. <T.N> in a key arena.
The move will also help it in a battle against RealNetworks
Inc <RNWK.O> which makes software for playing audio and video
programming over the Internet.
