The FDA has slowed down the process by insisting upon more extensive safety followup data. Once in hand, perhaps they could fast-track it in six months--but even if so, one would be talking about 4Q:99 approval, and a beginning of 2000 launch. I would prefer to be wrong about this, but I do not expect any significant sales for ziconotide in 1999. If the FDA turned out to be getting all of the questions answered prior to the NDA filing, and rushed this through 4 months, that would be great--but I am not counting on it.
