Yes, this is absolutely true. An E-Machine is cheaper than the most inexpensive parts you can buy separately.

maybe I will take up automobile repair.

Most engines are totally computerized these days. You need a very expensive piece of diagnostic equipment to determine what is going on with the engine. Buy a good old muscle car and enjoy yourself!
