Seagate Announces VAR Program for Tape Products

PR Newswire, Monday, March 08, 1999 at 07:17

Seagate's VAR Partners Program Enhances the Relationship Between Tape
Resellers and the Company

COSTA MESA, Calif., March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Seagate Technology, Inc.
(NYSE:SEG), a leading manufacturer of workstation and server tape drive
products, today announced it is launching the Seagate VAR Partners Program on
the World Wide Web ( reseller.seagate.com ). Designed exclusively for
VARs (Value Added Resellers) selling tape backup solutions, the Seagate VAR
Partners Program will enable Seagate to be more responsive and proactive to
its resellers' need for information on its tape products and ultimately to
assist resellers in selling those products.
"This VAR program is the culmination of nearly a year's worth of work with
a third-party research firm to determine reseller needs," said Kevin Perry,
senior director of Marketing and Business Development for Seagate Removable
Storage Solutions. "After conducting extensive qualitative and quantitative
studies with several hundred North American resellers, we've thoroughly
analyzed their needs and delivered what resellers want -- a VAR program with a
significant Web component. The program allows Seagate and its resellers to
learn, share and exchange pertinent information when, where and how resellers
want it."
The program has two levels -- Resource Partner and Premier Partner. All
North American resellers can register as a Resource Partner. A Resource
Partner has access to a dedicated reseller technical support line, enhanced
tape product and compatibility information, product news and reviews,
promotions, selling strategies, customer success stories, technical white
papers and other sales, marketing and customer service tools. A Resource
Partner also has access to Seagate Tape product resources and pre-sales
support.
North American VARs selling a minimum of 50 Seagate tape drives per
quarter can apply for the Premier Partner level. In addition to the benefits
available to a Resource Partner, a Premier Partner can call a toll-free number
for dedicated technical support with priority access, be assigned a field
sales representative, obtain end-user leads from Seagate marketing activities
and is eligible to apply for marketing development funds (MDF).
The Seagate VAR Partners Program is available to Value Added Resellers in
North America who currently sell or are interested in selling Seagate tape
products. To participate, VARs can register online at
register.seagate.com. For additional information on the Seagate VAR
Partners Program as well as Seagate's line of tape drives, see Seagate's Web
site at reseller.seagate.com, or call 800-626-6637 or 714-641-2500.
