I agree. If the DCT-1000 had no Ampex component, why should the DCT-5000 have any?

A further clarification of the DCT/Ampex discussion is in order:

First, the letters, "DCT" refers to a method of compression of digital video pictures. It is known as "Discreet Cosine Transform" or DCT.

Secondly, while it is widely used for data compression/extraction, Ampex does have a well known video tape format version. (R)??
