Sidney, don't forget the saving grace of humor. I remember my mother's observing when 70 that it was ridiculous to give her wines that needed to be laid down for a while. She said, "Oh, for goodness sake, the odds are that I won't be here to drink them then. Open it now so I can be sure of enjoying." She was laughing in the joy of life even as she acknowledged the relative nearness of its end.

I absolutely agree with this sentiment, Sidney, and do try to enjoy each day intensely. What I was saying about milestones like major birthdays, graduations, etc. is that they sort of hit you in the head with the poignancy of time passing, and make it hard, on these special days, to live in the moment.
