I ignored it because I thought it was anecdotal, and hence meaningless.

No one completely breaks out of the net, just as no one is completely trapped by it.

She is not utterly off the hook, but certain situations create exceptional moral hazards. I have met kids from the more affluent suburbs of NYC, especially when I was in college, and they often betrayed the same shallowness and narcissism as Monica.
