Intel Says Pentium III Chip Sales 'Slightly Ahead' of Plans
Beijing, March 8 (Bloomberg) -- Intel Corp., the world's biggest producer of computer chips, said global sales of its new Pentium III chips are ''slightly'' ahead of expectations. ''Sales are exactly what we expected, actually slightly ahead of what we (thought),'' said Albert Yu, a senior vice president for the company. ''It's doing extremely well.''

Gabriel...my understanding is that (apparently) March 10/11 is the last day that PC manufacuters (or I guess, all users of Intel chips) are allowed (under existing agreements) to tell Intel to "take back" orders that have already been signed....

After this date, it is pretty lucid as to what Intel's earnings will be for the quarter...If you recall, last quarter Intel came out on the same (equivelent) date and told analysts to up their estimates...that earnings were ahead of schedule..

I believe the logic is (also) that if Intel knew they were going to miss estimates, they would have enough data on March 10/11 to "pre-warn", and given their fudiciary responsibility, they would HAVE to say something at that point, or risk shareholder lawsuits..

Hope this helps..
