DataMirror's High Availability Suite selected DataMirror Corp DMC Shares issued 10,360,060 Mar 8 close $5.20 Tue 9 Mar 99 News Release Mr. Nigel Stokes reports Common has chosen and is currently using DataMirror High Availability Suite to ensure that the mission-critical information required to run the Common Spring 1999 show is thoroughly synchronized and available. In previous years, it was necessary to perform labour-intensive backups from tape to synchronize the on-site show server with the organization's production server at Common Data Center in Columbus, Ohio. During a show, no data entry was allowed on the Ohio server. At the end of a show, three time-consuming tape backups were made of the on-site machine and one was flown back to Ohio to restore the production server. This year, Common is using DataMirror High Availability Suite to provide a faster and better solution for synchronizing its two servers. High Availability Suite is being used to mirror critical data and objects between Common's production AS/400 in Ohio and a second AS/400 supplied by IBM to run the conference on-site in San Francisco. DataMirror High Availability Suite is an integrated set of components for AS/400 high systems availability. The product features high performance information and object mirroring, role switching capability, and a full-featured status monitor. It offers organizations a robust, easy to implement solution that ensures uninterrupted access to information during system downtime. High Availability Suite is also an integral component of cluster technology for the AS/400. At Common headquarters prior to the conference this year, High Availability Suite was installed on both the production AS/400 and the machine provided by IBM in order to initially backup and restore the second system. This AS/400 was then shipped to San Francisco for use on the show floor. Once the server arrived in San Francisco, Common and DataMirror staff used High Availability Suite to resynchronize the system with the production server in Ohio, capturing any changes to registration information or applications that occurred while the AS/400 was in transit. They then performed a role switch, making the IBM-supplied AS/400 into the source system to support running the show live on-site. The implementation of High Availability Suite ensures that, for the first time, Common has the ability to mirror data and objects from the show floor to its headquarters in Columbus. This has the benefit of enabling Common staff there to perform query and analysis on up-to-the-minute data. It also means that when Common 1999 wraps up, there will be no need to perform lengthy backups from tape to resynchronize the production AS/400 at Common headquarters.
