SCUMbria - Re: "I read somewhere that PSN was implemented as an extension of the CPUID instruction. Is this correct??"

The PSN uses a 64 bit UNIQUE code, embedded on each Pentium III, which is combined with the CPUID (32 bits) to yield a 96 bit PSN.

The CPUID itself has been around for at least 6 years on Intel products and other companies have used embedded IDs for identifying their products - CPLDs come to mind.
