In most cases, the Company will not respond for two reasons. It tends to either dignify or legitimitize the allegation, in which case they would be perpetually on the defensive. From the standpoint of a debate, it is hard to look good when you appear to be on the defensive.

It is also hard for the Company to respond due to information that cannot be disclosed, i.e. a deal in the works. Some of these deals take months to consummate and most contain confidentiality and non-disclosure clauses that would imperil the transaction if information is released.

So management has to endure the slings and arrows. Don't think the purveyors of disinformation aren't fully aware of management's inability to respond to their assertions.

One interesting item is that if you disregard the hyperbole and focus on the elements of either side's (long and short) argument, you will see commonality. For example here, the potential market value of patents, the potential market for software-based, cable-delivered Internet access, the potential for Internet-delivered applications based upon digital, addressable set-top boxes. etc. These elements, plus management's ability to stay abreast of the changing market for these services, will probably constitute the critical success factors for this Company.

Judge for yourself. I agree that from time to time this thread is "content free"; however, over time you learn the agendas of the participants.

Best regards,
